Learning Journeys and Development

Each child within the setting is dedicated a Learning Journey.  This document is a working document completed by your child’s key person. It contains information regarding your child’s development.

Observations, in both written and photograph form, are used to track your child’s development. This allows staff to discover areas for development and also where your children’s strengths may lie.

After completing the ‘Getting to know me’ pack when your child initially starts, the information is used to find your child’s starting points. Observations are then completed regularly which are inserted into the document.

This document works in partnership with you, we encourage you to work with us to provide information about your children. The Learning Journey can be taken home at any time and empty slips are provided for you to complete with observations from home. Any photographs, art work or certificates can also go into the Learning Journey provided by you or from the setting.

Parent’s evenings are held twice a year where information can be shared between you and your child’s key person. At this time you are also able to highlight any areas you wish for us to work on. A termly development plan will be completed and we will discuss with you the areas we will work upon with your children that term.

The nursery also works alongside health visitors to complete your child’s two year check. If desired, a health visitor can come into the nursery and liaise with your child’s key person and complete the check in an environment in which your child is comfortable. We also encourage parents to attend this meeting.

The EYP, Early Years Professional, within the nursery completes tracking on all the nursery to highlight are in which we need to focus upon. Tracking is also completed on your children’s communication skills termly.

Before your children leave for school, a document will be completed and after discussing with yourselves, will be sent to your child’s new school. Any additional settings in which your child attends will also be liaised with throughout the year with your permission
