Transition

The transition from home to nursery

We understand that starting in a new environment is a difficult transition for both children and parents. Taking this into consideration, we invite you to attend settling in sessions in which you can meet your child’s new key person and your child can have a play in the new environment with you.

We look at each child as an individual, and understand each child settles differently.  The nursery is able to accommodate the differing needs of the children regarding visits.

The transition between rooms

When children move to new rooms we appreciate it can be a big change for a child. We move children when we feel it is beneficial for the child and they are developmentally ready for this transition. To make this transition as smooth as possible, we take the children in small groups with their key person for a play in their new environment. Key persons will liaise with parents to discuss the room move and any information regarding new key persons and staff changes, should any have occurred.

The transition from our setting to school

Starting school is a big transition for both parents and children. The preschool environment prepares children through a variety of activities for this transition. Children are encouraged to be independent and encouraged to make choices in preparation for this change. Liaisons with the children’s new schools will be encouraged and teachers invited to meet the children. Key persons will show the teachers Learning Journeys and will discuss development. With your permission, a transition document will be completed and sent to your child’s new school.
